Trillium

And now, a few words about Trillium.  It's a pretty flower that, growing up in Memphis, TN and spending early adulthood in Lehi, UT,  I had never heard of until I moved to Wisconsin.  It grows wild here and I love it!  It's gorgeous and grows in patches.

If you'd like to learn more, visit the website here.  I thought it was very interesting to see that there are different colors and varieties as I have only ever seen the one kind.  Careful though, don't pick!  It takes 7 years for them to blossom again.

They're in the ground!

This past Saturday while my husband was busy looking for trolls at yard sales (see previous post), I bought some seed potatoes to plant.  Mostly because this year, I am absolutely determined to grow SOMETHING!!  I had already spent an hour or two clearing out a neglected old flower bed that has had no attention in 2 years.  WOW!!  I won't do that again.  I made two wonderful new friends!

And by the end of the summer, I'll hopefully have tons of these

Tomorrow's planting project---

DAYLILLIES!!!  Oh how I love them!!  Wish me luck!

A day of rummaging

Here in Wisconsin, there is an entire culture surrounding yard sales.  I had never before I moved here noticed such an interest in the activity.  In our area, whole neighborhoods will indulge on the same day.  So weary shoppers such as The Williams family, can park at one end of the subdivision and walk their way through.  3 weeks ago--Rudolph, 2 weeks ago--Stratford, last week--Park Ridge, and today--Plover.  I am not really into this activity as much as my husband as I feel we have enough stuff already in our home.  I do occasionally look through if someone appears to have a lot of books or kitchenware, but would anyone like to wager a guess what my lovin' husband is looking for?????

That's right folks--trolls.  The weird, bingo lady, funny hair, funny nose dollies.  He has about 200 of them and shows no signs of slowing down.  <sigh>  At least it's cheaper than stock car racing!

Very yummy dinner!

Here is a picture I got from Google images of the dish I made myself for dinner tonight, and honestly, alot of the nights I only cook for myself.
It's called croque madame, and it's about the yummiest thing you will EVER eat!!!!  However, I do feel the need to share that I put a little strawberry jam between the toast and the egg.  It sounds gross, but it just makes it better.

Bested by a household appliance

Recently, one of our three sons, the one pictured below with our only daughter, isn't he handsome???
purchased for the family a new vacuum cleaner.

It is excellent!  Our carpets are cleaner than they've been for a while and it is very lightweight and easy to use.  However, in all of the easy "ness", the makers neglected to include an easy to reassemble after emptying the dirt out option.  I believe I spent the better part of an hour this evening attempting to attach the filter to the top of  the canister.  I finally (I was unable to find this information anywhere on the appliance, but it must be there somewhere!) able to figure out that you hook the one side and then push the entire apparatus into place and then (and only then) it snaps shut.

WHEW!!!  It's been quite a while since I had so many curse words going through my mind!  BUT rest assured--I resisted temptation and only uttered an extremely frustrated ARGH!!!!!

Take comfort in the fact that once the "argh" was uttered, my husband stayed upstairs until he knew I was finished. A very wise (and cute) man!!!

What an evening!

Tonight I had a lovely evening.  I went and had dinner at a friend's house, and watched Phantom of  the Opera for the first time ever!  But rest assured I'll be watching it again!

Now doesn't she look like one of the funnest ladies EVER!!!???

I've decided this is my favorite song from the movie.  I just loved the graveyard scenes and the colors, etc.  Enjoy!!

Wishing you were Somehow Here Again

"Allez Cuisine!!!!"

I have a confession to make.  I love love LOVE watching this show!!

I'm really not sure why as it is not to my usual taste as far as cooking shows go.  Maybe it's the usual weirdness of the secret ingredient.  And even if the secret ingredient isn't weird, the chefs do something weird with it.  It is fun.  My favorite Iron Chef by far:

From the orange hair right down to the orange crocs.  His dishes always look like something I would like to try and wouldn't be afraid to eat.  AND he's almost NEVER NOT SMILING!  You gotta love that!

Interesting

The last 3 days in a row.  This song has been stuck in my head when I woke up.

Walk Tall, You're a Daughter of God

It's a lovely way to start the day!

Really??

This is what the beginning of May usually looks like in Wisconsin:

This is NOT what it looks like this year.  This year, has been more like this:

Now I am not usually one to complain about the weather (unless it's super duper hot), but I AM wondering what all of this means to my lilac bushes.  Will they ever bloom again????  And I will mention that I am extremely grateful that even though we've seen more than the occasional flake lately, the temps have been well above 0 degrees.  YAY!!!  And today, the sun came out for a few minutes in the evening.  YAY!!

So disgusting

I know I've been "off" blogging for a while, but I'm newly committed, and wanted to share the following information:

Look at the bugs that come in our house in the spring and summer!  EEEWWWW!!!
They're super fast, but squish just like a spider.  <shudder>  GROO DEEEE!!!

On the plus side, all the water and rain we've been having is forcing these to search for new homes as well.

It's going to be an interesting summer.  If we ever get a summer.  It's 39 degrees outside today--May 2.

Sigh
